Genetics and epigenetics of early human development.
The Robinson lab focuses on characterizing normal and abnormal growth and development of placenta and fetus. We are interested in answering questions about basic biology that can inform studies aimed to improve the clinical evaluation of pregnancy and newborn health. The application of epigenomic tools has given us new insights into how environmental influences (i.e. maternal diet and stress) and disease (i.e maternal preeclampsia, or placental infection) affect gene expression. We have research studies in the areas of preeclampsia, fetal growth restriction, neural tube defects, and preterm birth.
