Catalysis and Molecular Recognition Applied to Biology Research Theme

We have four main avenues of study in my lab: 1) We combine several techniques to discover new life-like (but not living) materials and catalysts, which capture the efficiency and the complexity of biology to diagnose and treat disease in new ways; 2) We are exploring the pharmacological action of peptide toxins in cells and building combinatorial libraries of the same to target cancer cells; 3) We are developing new ways for rapidly labeling biomolecules with F-18 for whole animal (and human) PET imaging; and 4) We are using chemical and biochemical approaches to study ribozymes and DNAzymes and natures prototypical catalysts that may hold clues to life’s origins.
